A Lamb Spit Roast Is A Healthier Choice

A healthier spit roast can be selected form either chicken, beef or lamb. The white meat of chicken is long claimed to contain less fat and ideal for the health conscious or those who want to lose weight through a low cholesterol diet. However, nutrition and health is now the focus of many nutritionist and dieticians. They have come up with more and more options that are healthy. Red meat, nowadays, is a lot leaner than it used to be thirty years ago. 

Lamb breeding programs have chosen a healthier diet for their animals, which is why lamb meat now contain less fat. This particular breed of sheep are the Poll Dorset or its cross breeds. This meat sheep has their excess fat trimmed off even before the meat cuts leave the butcher’s. High grade lamb usually contain fat encircling the muscle with more meat inside it, making the meat appear marbled. By trimming the fat from the meat, the total fat content is lessened. Those hidden fat within the meat now yields very minimal amounts. The lamb meat coloring is actually caused by myoglobin, a particular pigment that stores oxygen and contains iron. The higher the myoglobin, the higher its iron content, which further gives the meat its red tinge. The same goes with chicken legs, which is redder or darker than the breast because of the same myoglobin trace amount.
 
Having a lamb spit roast is a healthier alternative to the favorite pig roast and it has many benefits. Lamb is relatively inexpensive. The meat is a wonderful source of a much needed protein and iron. Protein form lamb is of high quality compared to pork. Lamb also provides 45% of our nutritional requirement of zinc, which is important for healing, development and to boost a  stronger immunity. B vitamins, which are necessary for our metabolic processes, are found abundantly in lamb meat. Small but essential quantities of copper, manganese and selenium are also contained in lamb. 
 
In addition, lamb only contains as small as 8% fat. Half of this fat is unsaturated, the so-called good fat. Unsaturated fat is actually mono-unsaturated typical of a good Mediterranean diet. Most people also consume lamb and it has no religious significance. If you are hosting a multi-ethnic party with Muslims and Hindus, lamb meat is the perfect offering.
