For beginners, it is wise and practical to use a flat and wider skewer. Make sure to choose the one that you can comfortably hold. There are other different kinds of mold like the circular, round, and double prong skewers. There are also skewers made from different materials like the bamboo, disposable, metal and wooden ones. If you really love your spit roast, you can invest on a good metal skewers made from steel since they last and are more durable. They can also be thoroughly cleansed.
We often associate spit roast with bamboo, just like in the old days. Using bamboo makes your spit roast tastier, but metal skewers also make great spit roasts. Most spit roast caterers prefer to use metal skewers, but bamboo skewers are also popular. This ensures that the food stays in place and will not slide off. Doing so will also prevent the burning of the skewer. During cooking, you need to keep your fire in moderation to avoid toasting your food. In addition, if your food pieces are flat, you may need to use two skewers so that these will not turn. Make sure not to keep on shifting your skewers or your food will not be cooked well and evenly.
Skewers are not only for spit roasts, you could buy smaller versions made of glass, wood, metal or plastic. These will serve as great decorative elements in serving your finger foods. These are called olive picks in some parts of the globe. Skewers are pretty useful, ideal in every house, where barbecues are considered a treat.
